Pacific Rim is closer to Sym-Bionic Titan than Evangelion

Months ago when I saw the first Pacific Rim trailer, I remember catching only part of it on the TV, and then rushing out to YouTube to see what I had missed. After watching the trailer I started to browse the comments to see that people start trying to figure out what Pacific Rim was based off of. The most common one I saw amoung these was Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Now based off what I have seen and read about Pacific Rim, there really are little to no similarities other then there are giant robots fighting monsters, and the pilots connect to their robots through a neurological link. To be honest I think people simply say Evangelion because it's a very well known mecha (robot related media).

Personally though, I feel Pacific Rim is much closer to another animated mecha known as Sym-Bionic Titan.

Here are some of the similarities I see between the two (note, while there aren't many, the similarities are closer and bigger).


Two pilots neurological linked

Now while I mentioned that Evangelion has it's pilots neurologically linked, the way Sym-Bionic Titan does it is much closer. Much like Pacific Rim, Sym-Bionic Titan has the two pilots neurologically linked, working together to control the mech. Now while there's never really any signs of them sharing memories like in Pacific Rim, it's definitely closer then Evangelion where it's only one pilot

Enemies coming through similar looking portals

In Pacific Rim, the enemies come through some sort of portal out of the Pacific ocean. Now from all the movie posters and what not it looks almost like a crack or rip. Sym-Bionic Titan also has the enemies come through what's known as a "Rift Gate" which also looks similar to a tare.  located in space.

This is much different from Evangelion, because in Evangelion, no one knows where the enemies come from. They always just appear, or the humans find them. There's no portal like Pacific Rim and Sym-Bionic Titan

Kaiju look similar to the Mutraddi

Another similarity between Pacific Rim and Sym-Bionic Titan, are the enemies. The Kaiju, the enemies in Pacific Rim somewhat look similar to the Mutraddi from Sym-Bionic Titan.

Now while there hasn't been a lot seen of the Kaiju, they seem, at least to me, to have a similar look to the Mutraddi, as seen from photos below (okay so I could really only find one good Kaiju photo to compare with)

Gipsy Danger's Elbow Rocket, The H.M.E.R.'s Jet Punch

Another similarity I found, which came more from watching the film, but can be seen in the trailer is Gipsy Danger's Elbow Rocket.

This is simply a jet engine you could call it that seems to give Gipsy more power when it goes in for a punch (you should be able to figure out why). Well one of the mechs in Sym-Bionic Titan, known as The H.M.E.R. or Homeland Mobile Emergency Robot (a human created mecha) shares the same ability and uses it as well when fighting a Mutraddi monster.

So while this list might not seem very long, the similarities are much closer then say Evangelion or others. Thanks for reading, and let me know what you think?
